Matt steps into the shoes of an advertiser at a4uexpo

Scheduling the a4uexpo agenda is always an exciting yet pretty daunting task, this year was no exception!

I always step into the delegate shoes and think about what’s sizzling, what’s going to get red hot and where the future lies.

I must admit as I started to write this I understand how difficult a task it can be to decide which sessions to attend, and perhaps see through the titles and into the meat of what a session is about.

So, here are my tips, if I were stepping into an advertiser’s shoes.

After grabbing a coffee kick and a danish I’d be heading off to Performance Marketing & The World Beyond Online we’ve talked in the past about online to offline convergence and here you can see real examples of innovative ideas and solutions in mobile, print and telesales.

Equally at this time you could look at the Attribution session or Facebook advertising; the former an extremely hot area right now across Europe and Seth & Jens are legendary in this area; the latter needs to explanation into it’s potential and Lee @ TBG spends more money with Facebook than anyone else in Europe.

Moving to 11am, two sessions stand out for advertisers, the research study on the European landscape sure to be full of golden nuggets or a look into the future of vouchering and group buying in the channel. Depending on where you’re based within the EU vouchers can be huge but they also need to be understood for them to be effective. I’ll actually be moderating this session and I’m looking forward to it!

Just after midday, the Managing Director of Affilinet Uli will be looking at Performance Marketing: Display Matters, I’ve seen this presentation and it’s great.

At the same time Owen looks at affiliates as a Branding and a Sales Force –  a pure advertiser session if I’ve ever seen one and an hour that will make you think carefully about how publishers can be used as an extension to your advertiser’s brand.

After lunch we have Geno looking at Common mistakes stagnating your affiliate programmes growth – Geno is fantastic and what he does not know about affiliate management is not worth knowing! He’s also authored a book on the subject and will be giving two away to the audience.

Going head to head however is a detailed look into geo-targeted mobile vouchers as an advertiser you may be considering this as an option for your programme so learn from Ben at Vouchchacha in the Live Theatre.

The next hour slot, well you’re spoilt for choice as all are aimed at advertisers in one way or another. Choose from M-Commerce strategy, or perhaps if fraud is a concern for you then join Heiko as he talks about Fraud & Compliance in Performance Marketing. One perhaps not to miss considering it potential severity  is Andrew talking and answering questions about the e-Privacy directive or even a panel on Partner Segmentation & Communication.

The day does not end there as we are yet to talk about Advertising within Social & Games and a look into Virtual Currencies – both huge opportunities within Europe today.

And that’s just the first day…. let’s presume you don’t prop up the bar at 4am at our BBQ & party tonight when the free bar closes and make it fresh on day two. You know we’ve ordered bacon butties for you all?

Day two brings us even more choice.

I’d hit it off with either a look into Pay Per Call or if you’re looking to go global then Managing a Global Multi-Disciplined Campaign should be right up your street with no other than bigmouthmedia at the helm.   If you dabble with affiliate marketing on the side then Dave Cupples session on Facebook, Twitter and Blogging should be fun ;)

11am gives us the huge and powerful debate on retargeting but also sessions on Facebook advertising and product feeds. Depending on whether you use or are considering the latter I guess may make your choice easier, or not!

Its keynote time at 12.30 with Rory on Behavioural Economics and Affiliate Marketing.  Rory is a fantastically engaging speaker and one I’m looking forward to immensely!

If you prefer though, head next door as Tobias looks at the Eastern European Marketplace.

After lunch, we have an intriguing insight into an agency and client relationship and perhaps some time to presume the expo hall for the final time*many exhibitors have drink receptions on their stands! ;)

You could head to the roundtables at 4pm with an in-depth discussion on elements such as video, retargeting, de-duplication, attribution etc but don’t forget at 4.30pm we have sessions on Cross Channel Measurement & Attribution and also a session on Lead Generation both highly relevant to advertisers.

If you’ve got this far you should have noticed I’ve not included all sessions, just those 100% aimed at advertisers I’ll be writing another blog tomorrow for publishers!

Oh, I almost forgot the final session. Here  I will be wrapping up the show with half a dozen speakers as we share our conference highlights, hot topics and takeaways… oh I almost forgot you can grab a complimentary beer as you enter!
