Another reason to attend a4uexpo Europe this April…

“If you only visit Amsterdam once in your life, make sure your visit coincides with April 30, 2008”

Queen’s Day is the annual Dutch national holiday in honour of the late Queen Juliana’s birthday. On Queen’s Day up to one million visitors are expected to travel to join the 750, 000 locals in Amsterdam for the world’s largest street party.   And we all know how you affiliates like to party!

A word to the wise: book your Amsterdam hotel accommodation early as the City will sell out!

The Evening Before Queen’s Day

a4uexpo Europe comes to close on the 29th April with a relaxing after party on the RAI’s very own beach, providing you with the option to venture into the Centre to see the start of the celebrations, we will of course be providing our very own “a4uexpo’s Queens Day” guide, offering advice & suggestion on making the most of festive celebrations

This looks set to be a bit of a crazy evening, with that said, we do advice  that you pace yourself… as you still have the whole of the 30th to continue the celebrations.

Official Queen’s Day

For those who are up early – 6:00 AM marks the start of the ‘free market’ – a street market where half the population sells their bric-a-brac, used clothes, and crafts for next to nothing. Where? Everywhere people live. What? Well, you’ll find anything from broken toys, last year’s Queen’s Day purchases, and old clothes to fantastic bargains on musical instruments, electronics, software and everything else under the sun.

Throughout the city, professional street performers vie for attention. There are pick-up bands, aspiring opera singers, teenage rappers and street discos. Rio-style drum bands have been very popular the past few years.  Huge outdoor concerts are organized at various locations, such as Dam square and Museumplein.

How will I spot the Queens Day celebrations?

One simple word “Orange

The sea of people will line the streets and canals wearing orange, the national color.  By way of indication of how crazy this party is: you can normally walk from Central Station to Dam Square in about 7 minutes. On Queen’s Day the same distance will take you at least an hour.

The beer flows freely, served in plastic containers that come with a deposit fee.

Roll on a4uexpo Europe, the event & party of the year rolled into one.
