This year Kevin Edwards and Michelle Boxall from Affiliate Window are tackling some of the common misconceptions about affiliate marketing head on. One of the more controversial sessions this year and one that I’m sure will raise brows of even the most experienced affiliate marketeers.
Which session are you speaking on?
Day One: The Truth Will Out: Disproving Common Misconceptions In Affiliate Marketing
What advice will you be sharing at your session? i.e Why should we come and see you!
It’s been recognised that there is a lack of solid understanding about the value and worth of affiliate marketing to advertisers. We believe this is hampering how we talk about the industry and potentially giving merchants the wrong impression of affiliates. There are accepted truths about certain affiliates or activity that have become fact without any solid attempts to prove or disprove them. We’re aiming to shed light on some of these theories and show how different affiliate activity can impact your programme. We’re also going to present our views on the issue that no merchant has so far taken the plunge on, that of multi-commission attribution.
Why is it important?
Affiliate marketing while not complicated is complex and few merchants who undertake it recognise the intricacies of running a successful affiliate programme. By arming them with the facts from some real life examples we believe they will come to acknowledge the power of the channel. Until networks and agencies digest and present this data and attempt to contextualise it then there is always the danger affiliate marketing will be viewed with suspicion and will continue to be seen as the poor man of online.
What experience level will you be pitching at? (beginner to advanced)
The session will assume some knowledge of affiliate marketing and will be aimed at those affiliate managers who are looking to really get to grips with their different affiliates and take their programmes to the next level. If you find yourself struggling to answer comprehensively what value voucher codes can add to your programme and how affiliates who use them impact your other affiliates then this session is for you.
Which sessions or speakers are you looking forward to seeing at a4uexpo?
As someone who has limited SEO knowledge I always look forward to these sessions, mainly so I can empathise better with those affiliates who are optimising site content. The voucher code session has an interesting slant this year as well, looking to understand the typical voucher code consumer. I’d also encourage everyone to attend the Affiliate Marketing Council session, your one forum during the Expo to ask any question you like on any aspect of affiliate marketing.
Do you have any tips for delegates who attend conferences like a4uexpo?
Affiliate Window will be exhibiting and I’m sure numerous members of staff will be on hand to talk to any delegates regardless of their business or interest, keep them busy by saying hello, they’re a pretty friendly bunch. Oh, and don’t forget your business cards!
Can you share any hot news or gossip in your world / niche?
We’re planning a cracking Christmas incentive and looking to launch a standalone portal so affiliates can access all the latest merchant deals and promotions. It will be the first time we’ve approached Christmas in such a considered way and given our reputation as the leading retail affiliate network will hopefully prove to be an invaluable asset.
