Munich & the Hilton Park Hotel

As a city known for its beer drinking, revelry and cosmopolitan lifestyle, Munich is the capital of Bavaria and offers visitors a mix of stunning architecture, historical landmarks and beautiful gardens.

The baroque Nymphenburg palace, The English Garden, Europe’s biggest city garden, the Isarauen river meadows and surrounding lakes are stunning to visit whatever the weather.

However, Munich's numerous Beer Gardens, including the famous Hofbräuhaus, are popular with visitors keen to sample the local beer and atmosphere. With Beer Festivals dotted throughout the year, there doesn't seem to be any excuse to just sit back and enjoy the sound of clinking beer steins, oom-pah music and drunken revelry.

… by air

Munich's Franz Joseph Strauss Airport lies 40km north from the City Centre. As a major hub for global flights, it is not surprisingly a huge complex with six terminals and a central area called Terminal Z. The terminals are on the ground floor, with a range of cafés and shops as well as airport buses and taxis.

24hr Service Centre – you can leave luggage (from €3.50/24hrs), surf the internet and buy phone cards and public transport tickets.

… by train, bus, tram & taxi

Although the airport is on the outskirts of Munich, getting to town couldn't be easier. The cheapest and simplest way to the City Centre is to take S-Bahn line S1 or S8, departing up to six times per hour between 04:00 and 01:30 from underneath the Central Area. Buy tickets (single €9.90 or get a €10 dayticket) from the counter or machines before descending to the platforms (many tour operators and airlines also offer a combined "Ride & Fly" ticket, so worth checking when you book).

From the Airport to the Hilton Munich Park Hotel you can choose between a single one way ticket for €9,20 per person and a group ticket up to 5 people for €18,00. You can buy these tickets directly at the S-Bahn station. At the airport take the S-Bahn number S8 to Ostbahnhof (all S-Bahn stop here), then change to the 54 bus (direction Münchner Freiheit), this bus stops directly in front of the Hilton Munich Park Hotel at the Tucherpark stop.

Alternatively, take the Airport Bus to the Hauptbahnhof main train station; it departs every 20 minutes between 06:20-21:40. The trip takes 40 minutes and costs €10.50.

Munich's public transport system (MVV) is excellent, with S-Bahn suburban trains, U-Bahn metros and a comprehensive network of Bus and Tram routes. Transport runs from around 05:00 to 01:00, and tickets are valid for all kinds of city transport. Tickets can be bought from machines by the platforms or at the MVV centre on the first floor of the Hauptbahnhof (open 06:00 - 24:00).

Please note, the MVV transport networks allows passengers to use a single timetable and buy one ticket which allows travel on the entire transport network.

Taxis are also available at the Airport and all over the city.
